I am also a qualified mountain guide. I love hiking, climbing, skiing and snowshoeing into remote regions to camp and enjoy the solitude.
I have almost 20 years’ experience leading research across the employment, education, and health sectors. My career aim is to combine research and communication to change minds and improve prosperity and wellbeing in the UK. I have been fortunate to work on tackling the great challenges of our time.
I currently run my own freelance research consultancy - Tom Lyscom Consulting - where I help clients with research, policy and evaluation answering questions like ‘are we achieving our intended impact?’ and ‘what can we start, stop or change to better reach our societal goals?’ My reputation as someone who supports and delivers, with expertise in research but also multiple sectors, means that most of my business is through recommendations and word of mouth.
In my previous job as Principal Consultant at New Philanthropy Capital I led large research and policy programmes as well as Theory of Change and strategy processes simultaneously. I was responsible for research methods, founding the Research Skills Group and I won significant work (£200k in 20 months). I led teams of up to 7 researching for example the future of neurodegenerative disease research and I was trusted to deliver high-profile (£400k+) projects to tight deadlines.
